BOSTON, Mass. – Members of the Bentley University women's indoor track and field teams set at least a dozen new personal bests while competing in the Boston University Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational Friday at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
Among the new PR's was junior Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) in the long jump, with her distance of 15 feet, one-half inch improving on her previous best by more than nine inches and moving her to sixth on Bentley's all-time list. She placed 59th of 77 in the massive meet and she also established a new PR in the 60 meter hurdles (10.78 seconds).
Junior Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlington HS) and grad student Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) each finished in the top 60 percent in their respective events with Pettinella 49th of 84 in the 1,000 meters (PR of 3:09.32) and Varsell was 66th of 123 in the 3,000. Her time of 10:04.75 put her second among Division II runners.
Six Bentley runners competed in the mile and all came away with new PRs, including senior Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) and freshman Katie Burke (Braintree/Braintree HS). Competing in a field of 167, Nichols was 106th in 5:19.99, a PR by more than five seconds, and Burke bettered her previous best by more than ten seconds, placing 128th in 5:28.57. Unofficially, Nichols' time put her in the top ten of the Northeast-10 performance list in the event.
Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
