  • Hoffman & 6 Former Student-Athletes Selected for Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame

    Longtime Bentley University women’s volleyball coach Sandy Hoffman, five former All-Americas and one of the premier defensemen in the formative days of the university’s Division I hockey program have been selected for the Bentley University Athletic Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held in the Lacava Center Executive Dining Room on September 26.

    Bentley University sophomore forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy), the conference’s leading scorer during the 2014-15 season, has been chosen for the All-Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball first team. Also recognized by the conference, as a member of the All-Rookie Team, was freshman guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS).

    Forwards Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) and Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) each put up double-doubles and combined to make 16 of 21 shots as Franklin Pierce University pulled away for a 79-50 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball Tuesday night at the FPU Field House.

    Senior center Tori Faieta (Lynn) powered her way to 25 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, and sophomore guard Kelly Martin (Scituate) added 20 points, as Stonehill College, ranked 10th in the USA Today Sports/WBCA Division II coaches poll, held off a late charge from Bentley University to record an 85-71 win over the Falcons in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball at Merkert Gym Saturday evening. It was the 100th meeting in a series that dates back 41 seasons.

    Seniors Carlene Kluge (Reading/Reading HS) and Kelsey Mattice (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS), sophomore forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) and freshman Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) combined for 67 points on 26-of-47 shooting as Bentley University closed out its regular season home schedule with a 75-62 win over Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball Wednesday night at the Dana Center.

    The CBS Sports Network cameras and broadcast crew will be at the Dana Center Saturday when the Bentley University women’s basketball team hosts St. Michael’s College in a game that could play a key role in determining a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference championship field. Tip-off is scheduled for slightly after 12 noon and the game will be available online (www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2015/02/14) as well as on cable systems across the country.

    With six games left in the regular season, the Bentley University women’s basketball team trails Saint Anselm College, the current number five team, by two games in the battle for the final berth in the Northeast-10 Conference championship tournament. The two teams meet Saturday at 1:30 pm at Saint Anselm’s Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, and by the time the final horn sounds, they’ll be separated by either one game or by three, a major difference with the season quickly winding down.

The two will be on the court Wednesday night when the Falcons host the Chargers at the Dana Center with tip-off scheduled at 5:30 pm.
