    Bentley University sophomore left fielder Shannon Connor (West Haven, Conn./West Haven HS) has been selected to the All-Northeast-10 Conference softball third team, and the NE-10 All-Rookie team includes Bentley freshman lefty Kelly Ferris (Seymour, Conn./Seymour HS).

    Chances are that Bentley University senior catcher Erica Thibodeau (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker HS) will never forget her final collegiate at bat as a member of the Falcon softball team. Thibodeau drilled a two-run homer to left in the top of the eighth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie and propelling Bentley to a 3-1 win over St. Michael’s in the non-conference portion of a season-ending doubleheader at Doc Jacobs Field.

    Pitching on her home field for the final time, Bentley University senior Carly Taitz (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) authored a six-hit shutout as the Falcons topped Merrimack College 2-0 in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball and the final home game of the season Thursday afternoon.

    Bentley University and UMass-Lowell battled to a 4-4 nine-inning draw, with the Falcons stranding the bases loaded in both extra innings, before darkness prevailed in the second half of a Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Bentley. The visitors took the opener, 7-0, behind the four-hit pitching of freshman Marielle Handley (Durham, Conn.).

    Bentley Univiersity sophomore Caitlin Betz (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) flirted with perfection Sunday afternoon, retiring the first 19 Southern New Hampshire batters she faced before sophomore right fielder Holly Eicher (Stoneham) broke it up with one out in the seventh with a soft looper just off the glove of senior second baseman Laura McDonough (Braintree/Braintree HS).

    Junior shortstop Nicole Boucher (Woonsocket, R.I.) had five hits, including three triples, and scored four runs as Saint Anselm College swept Bentley University, 9-8 in eight innings and 4-3, in college softball action Tuesday afternoon at Bentley. The opener was considered a Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division game while the nightcap was non-conference.

    The 2012 Bentley University softball team will kick off a season-opening ten-game trip to Florida on Saturday with a 1 pm encounter with Georgian Court University, and eighth-year head coach Michele DeGregorio is optimistic about her team’s prospects for the upcoming campaign after a difficult season in 2012.
