MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Led by senior Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS), the Bentley University golf team captured its own Newport Classic, which it hosted on Wednesday at the Newport National Golf Club.

As a team, Bentley finished a school record three-under par with a 285. The Falcons earned thre championship of the five-team event by 16 strokes over runner-up Assumption College (301). The College of Saint Rose was third (303) and the field also included Adelphi University (306) and Providence College (312).

Kulikowski fired a career-best, five-under-par 67 to tie for the lowest individual score in program history. The last Falcon to turn in a 67 was Malcolm Oliver in September 2015. Kulikowski, who took medalist honors by three strokes over Providence's Matt Carlson, has six birdies and one bogey.

Also turning in a sub-par round by Bentley was senior Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS), who tied for third with a 71.

In a field of 35, Bentley also received top-ten performances from sophomores Ellis Yoder (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead HS) and Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS), as well as freshman Ryan Daly (Beverly, Mass./Beverly HS). Yoder shot a 73 to tie for sixth and both Ethier and Daly tied for ninth with a 74.

Bentley, the fifth-ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region, will finish its regular season Monday and Tuesday at the California University Crofton Invitational in Crofton, Md.
