WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore wide receiver Rasheem James (Philadelphia, Pa.) caught two passes from redshirt-junior QB A.J. Long (Bethlehem, Pa.) during a 27-point second quarter, and Long accounted for a total of four TDs, as West Chester University shot past Bentley University, 44-6, in non-conference season-opening football Thursday evening at Bentley.

Long, who started five games for Syracuse in 2014, completed 10 of 14 passes for 184 yards and also ran the ball 13 times for 54 yards.

Bentley, which was limited to 63 yards total offense, turned the ball over three times, including two in the first 16:30 that helped the visiting Golden Rams vault out to a 20-3 lead.

It was a 7-3 West Chester lead after one. Following a fumble recovery inside the Bentley 17, the Golden Rams jumped out to an early lead on a one-yard run by senior tailback Mark Dukes (Pottstown, Pa.).

Bentley answered right back with its longest drive of the night, moving from their own 25 to the WCU 29  before settling for a career-long 46-yard field goal by junior Grant Buchanan (Holliston/ Holliston HS) with 6:36 left in the opening stanza. Buchanan also booted a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter.

West Chester broke the game open in the second quarter, taking a commanding 34-6 lead into intermission. Long ran for a six-yard TD on the opening play of the second and later teamed up with James on scoring strikes of 20 and 29 yards.

West Chester added to its lead with a 28-yard field goal by Andrew Chiglis (Kennett Square, Pa.) in the third and a two-yard keeper by Long in the fourth.

Bentley's deepest penetration came in the second when junior corner Quintin-John McDermott (Franklin/Milton Academy) picked off a Long pass and returned it to the West Chester 10. The Falcons got it only to the eight before Buchanan kicked his second field goal.

Dukes rushed for 101 yards on 21 carries to lead West Chester and James caught six passes for 82 yards.

The Bentley offense was led by sophomore running back Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Lake, N.J./ Bishop Ahr HS), who gained 46 yards on 15 carries. Sophomore QB Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./ Perkiomen Valley HS) finished nine of 19 for 50 yards.

Bentley's leading tacklers were freshman defensive end Cedric Dashiell II (Buena Park, Calif./ Buena Park HS) and sophomore linebacker Josh Martin (Abington/Abington HS), each with eight.

West Chester, an NCAA second-round team a year ago, finished with 433 yards total offense and tripled the Falcons in terms of first downs, 21-7.

Bentley will look to claim win number one next Thursday when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule at Southern Connecticut State (7 pm).
