    Overshadowed by the celebration of coach Barbara Stevens’ 1,000th career win Wednesday against Adelphi University was the fact it was the ninth straight victory for the Bentley University women’s basketball team. The Falcons, who moved up from seventh to fifth in this week’s WBCA Division II national coaches’ poll, will attempt to push the current win streak to double figures when they host Southern Connecticut State University Saturday at the Dana Center.

The list of 1,000-game winners reads like a Who’s Who of coaches. Pat Summit. Tara VanDerveer. Geno Auriemma. Sylvia Hatchell. Mike Krzyzewski. Herb Magee. All six have been enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield. That number could grow by one as soon as Wednesday evening when Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer Barbara Stevens puts her team out on the Dana Center court to take on Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference play.     Bentley University is tied for number one nationally in the latest NCAA Division II Academic Success Rate report. Of the three institutions who shared the top spot with a 98 percent ASR, Bentley is the only one that has a football program. In recognition of having a four-year ASR of 90 or better, Bentley received a “Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence” from the NCAA.
