Two Second Half Goals Push So. New Hampshire Past Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Second half goals from freshman Yannick Kabala and junior Chris Tsonis pushed No. 12 Southern New Hampshire to a 2-1 win over Bentley in the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.

The win is the 13th straight for the Penmen, who are seeded second in the tournament and will host third-seeded UMass-Lowell on Friday. The seventh-seeded Falcons fall to 9-7-2 and will have to wait to see if their season will continue.

A 41st minute goal by sophomore Cody Osgood (Harvard, Mass./The Bromfield School) staked the Falcons to a 1-0 lead on their first shot on goal of the game. Osgood took a pass from sophomore Justin Cirasola (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) out on the right wing and beat goalie Joey Kapinos with a shot from 20 yards.

But just over a minute after the halftime break, the Penmen equalized from an unlikely source as Kabala, brought on as a substitute in the 25th minute, scored his first career goal. The goal came as Bentley tried to clear the ball from its own box, but Kabala instead headed it down and into the left corner of the net from 10 yards.

In the 69th minute the conference's leaders in goals and assists teamed up for the go-ahead goal. Junior Ruben Resendes sent a through ball from midfield to Tsonis at the top of the penalty area, who then took a few dribbles and scored from 12 yards out.

The Falcons were down to 10-men for the final four-plus minutes after a second yellow card was given out.

Senior goalkeeper Matt Reynolds (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made nine saves for Bentley, while Kapinos picked up his eighth win.
