Bentley University head hockey coach Ryan Soderquist has been named a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, given annually to the NCAA Ice Hockey Coach of the Year, the American Hockey Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston announced on Thursday that Bentley University sophomore forward Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) has been named the 60th recipient of the Walter Brown Award, which is given annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.

It was a big night for Bentley at the Atlantic Hockey awards banquet on Thursday as the Falcons took home two major awards and had five players earn All-Conference honors. Head coach Ryan Soderquist was named Coach of the Year and Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Sophomore Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) was named first team All-Atlantic Hockey.

RIT defeated Bentley 3-0 Sunday night in game three of the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals to end the Falcons’ season. Senior Taylor McReynolds had two goals for the Tigers.
